How it works MGAs

Why Generic Billing Tools Aren’t Enough for MGAs

Generic billing tools are built for simple invoicing, not the layered complexity MGAs operate in every day. They are unable to handle:

Multi-party premium flows

Unable to split and route premiums accurately across carriers, brokers, and reinsurers in a single transaction.

Commission waterfall calculations

No support for tiered or variable commission structures that change based on carrier agreements and broker performance.

Carrier settlement reconciliation

Can’t auto-reconcile settlements against bound policies, leaving finance teams doing it manually every month.

Mid-term policy adjustments

Struggle to recalculate billing mid-cycle when policies are endorsed, cancelled, or reinstated.

Bordereaux reporting

Not built to generate carrier-ready bordereaux, forcing MGAs to export and reformat data outside the system

Audit-ready transaction trails

Lacks the granular logging carriers and compliance frameworks required during audits.

MGA Operating Layer

SubscriptionFlow as Your MGA Operating Layer

Most insurance MGA software either bolts billing onto a policy admin system as an afterthought or forces MGAs to use generic SaaS billing tools that don’t understand split remittance. SubscriptionFlow serves as a dedicated financial middleware layer between your PAS and your carriers, brokers, and policyholders, processing every monetary movement triggered by a policy event.

Here’s what it does in practice:

Ecommerce channels Speciality liability Parametric products Enrollment to payout

Custom Integration

Multi-Carrier Program Accounting Without a Custom Integration for Each Carrier

SubscriptionFlow simplifies the complexities of insurance premium management with billing workflows designed specifically for the industry. The platform automates pro-rata premium calculations, commission splits, policy document delivery, and renewal processing while ensuring accurate reporting and remittance.

SubscriptionFlow connects to your existing policy admin system by pushing bind, endorsement, cancellation, and payout events in real-time.

Insurance Revenue

Modules Built for Insurance Revenue Operations

SubscriptionFlow acts as a dedicated revenue layer between your PAS and finance teams, managing the financial operations that your PAS wasn’t built to handle at scale.

Premium Billing and Flexible Installment Management

Collect premiums on any schedule and any payment method, with billing adjustments that trigger automatically when policies change mid-term.

Commission Tracking and Settlement Automation

Track earned commissions in real time, handle clawbacks automatically, and generate settlement statements without reconciliation backlogs.

Renewal Automation and Self-Service Portal

Renewals go out automatically, and policyholders manage their own coverage through self-service portals.

Revenue Recognition and Real-Time Analytics

Give finance, ops, and underwriting a live view of earned premiums, lapse rates, and commission liability without waiting for month-end reports.

Insurance Stack

Connects to Your Existing Insurance Stack

SubscriptionFlow is designed to augment your policy administration and claims systems, not replace them.  Its API-first architecture connects to your existing PAS and claims platform to automatically trigger correct billing adjustments, while direct accounting and ERP integrations eliminate manual data entry by syncing revenue, commissions, and settlement records. SubscriptionFlow also supports a wide range of global and regional payment gateways, enabling you to add or switch providers without disrupting your billing workflows.

Programs

Compliance-Ready Billing For State-Filed Programs

For MGAs writing admitted business, billing must comply with state-specific regulations: cancellation notice periods, unearned premium refund timelines, and surplus lines tax filing data. SubscriptionFlow stores the state filing parameter for each program and enforces it automatically.

You’ve Got Questions. We’ve Got Answers.

An MGA (Managing General Agent) is a specialised insurance intermediary that works on behalf of an insurance carrier. In contrast to traditional brokers, MGAs can underwrite risks, set policy pricing, issue policies, and manage premium collection under authority granted by the insurer.

In the insurance ecosystem, MGA is between carriers, brokers, and policyholders. When a policy is issued, renewed, updated, or cancelled, MGA collects premiums, distributes the carriers share, retains their commission, and pays broker commissions, all while keeping payments and settlements accurately tracked.
